In 1981, RAM was started as a division of Dodge. Dodge had been producing trucks since the early 1900’s and displayed a ram hood ornament on a range of trucks and vehicles that was easily recognizable. Between the years of 1985-1990, the first generation of RAM trucks were produced. They become more fuel efficient in 1988, when there were upgrades to the electronic injection system. This boost in efficiency helped to give the brand more popularity and success on the market. Between 1990-1995, a second generation was produced that featured a range of changes to the exterior. The trucks came in light-duty as well as heavy-duty options. There have been many stylistic and performance upgrades through the years, and in 2010, RAM Trucks was established as a division of cars under Chrysler as a spin-off from Dodge. The goal when producing RAM trucks has been to appeal to “real truck customers” looking for high-performance and heavy-duty vehicles that would last.
