Factory MOPAR Splash Guards & Mud Flaps
How to Install Splash Guards and Mud Flaps: an Easy DIY
When splash guards or mud flaps get torn or broken, or worse, detach, dirt and grime can start to build up around them. That not only makes it harder for your wheels to turn. It also causes corrosion long-term -- in short, underbody damage.
That happens, and your repair bill's sure to add up, especially on a pricey investments like, say, a Jeep Wrangler or a RAM 2500. Don't worry; replacing them is pretty straightforward. We've got your set, too -- genuine OEM, guaranteed to fit, and cheaper than MSRP to boot. Usually, all you have to do is screw them into your ride's existing mounting holes with a Philips or similar screwdriver; little to no drilling is needed, usually. Here's how to do it in most cases.
- Clean out your wheel well and mounting area; it'll go a long way to making installation easier (you won't have to try to work around crud).
- Turn your vehicle's front wheels all the way to the left; this'll give you max clearance between your tires and wheel wells (another way to make putting things on easier).
- Check the back of your splash guards or mud flaps for where they're supposed to go on the vehicle; a lot these days have left and right indications to make sure you end up with the right one on the right side.
- Locate the mounting holes for a guard or flap in one of your wheel wells; remove the screws in them and set them aside.
- Put on a guard or flap. It should line right up with those mounting holes. (For you, it'll pay to get OEM Mopar here; the brand is the exclusive manufacturer of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM parts, so they'll be up to spec.)
- Put the screws back, attaching it to the wheel well, but don't tighten it all the way.
- If you got more screws and washers with the guard or flap, put them on and screw them into any remaining mounting holes, with hex nuts in between the guard or flap and the wheel well.
- Adjust the guard or flap to the proper angle and tighten the screws the rest of the way.
- If a guard or flap has extra holes, and there're no holes on your ride to match them to, you should drill those holes; they'll make the guard or flap more stable.
- Follow these steps as needed for the remaining guards and flaps.
The whole thing should take about an hour, and you'll save money doing DIY and not paying a dealer. Of course, if you'd prefer a service center to take care of it, though, that's always a good idea. Feel free to contact our parts team if you have any questions; we'll be happy to help.
